Project Profiles

Gallo Farming, Atherton

The Far North Queensland Township of Atherton, located on the Atherton Tablelands is home to Gallo Farming, a large Dairy Farming operation. During 2006 a project to construct a cheese and chocolate production facility was commenced. This facility is located adjacent to the existing dairy which provides the milk requirements of the factory.

Jackson & Jackson Refrigeration Pty Ltd was selected to design and construct the refrigeration and air conditioning requirements of this project.

The new facility incorporates a viewing deck, cafe and shop.  Much of the factory area of this facility is constructed from sandwich panel which was part of the refrigeration contract.

The main production area is air conditioned with a split-ducted air conditioning system providing the required cooling. A number of storage and production coldrooms lead off this area.  ese coldrooms are part of the production process and are set to achieve differing temperature and humidity conditions as required.

Each coldroom is fitted with an individual refrigeration system.  Some of the coldrooms are fitted with a provision to allow for humidity control.

All of the refrigeration outdoor units are mounted in a plant area.  The lighting in the main production area is metal-halide with the coldrooms all fitted with florescent fittings.

The controls for this project consist of Innotech Maxim DDC digital controls and a dedicated PC.  These control system is utilized to control, data-log and monitor the temperature in all coldrooms and the main processing area.  The control system maintains humidity in those coldrooms which require this.   All of the coldrooms will bring up an alarm if the conditions reah pre-determined levels.  The data from the control system is extracted and viewed in a graphically format.  This control system offers remote monitoring if required.

The shop and café contains a freezer-room, coldroom and a chocolate storage room.  The temperature within these rooms are monitored by a small Maxim control located within this area and connected to the control network.  This building is fully air conditioned with inverter type, reverse cycle air conditioning systems.
