About Jackson & Jackson

A Brief History

Jackson & Jackson (Qld) Pty Ltd was formed in October 1993 as a partnership of Bob & Jeff Jackson. A couple of old Ford vans and some basic tools were purchased and the company set off primarily as a subcontractor to Environ in Cairns. The first company office was a single room at 77 Buchan St Cairns which was sub-let from Croft Sheetmetal. The first twelve months was successful and two first year apprentices were employed. The bulk of the workload during this period was provided by Environ.

Towards the end of this period of trading, the partners decided that there was an opening for a new refrigeration and air conditioning business in the Innisfail district.  With this in mind, a suitable business premises was leased and fitted out at 180 Edith St, Innisfail.  These premises still remain in use today.  The business opened for trade in Innisfail in October 1994 with not a single job on the books. A fifth staff member, the company’s first administration officer, started with the company on this day.  Jobs started coming in on that first day and have never stopped since.

Business growth was strong and work was carried out for many clients in the Innisfail and Tully districts, including government work and some sub contract work for Environ in Townsville and on the Atherton Tablelands.  Within a couple of years the company employed twelve people and had a full sales order book. During this time many new produce cold rooms, amongst many other projects, were completed.

In September 1998 the company was sold to Environ and a new period began for the business. All of the management and staff remained with the business.  Many upgrades were carried out after the sale of the business, including IT systems and vehicles.  For the most part, the business carried on in much the same way as it had previously.

Cyclone Larry hit Innisfail in March 2006 and caused turmoil within the business due primarily to the vastly increased workload carrying out cyclone related repairs.

On 1st December 2006, the business underwent a management buy-out. A new company was formed, which was called Jackson & Jackson Refrigeration Pty Ltd with a number of shareholders, all of whom work directly within the business.  The original owners, Bob & Jeff Jackson, are amongst the current shareholders.  A major expansion programme for the business has been implemented under the new ownership to meet the increased demand for refrigeration, air conditioning and electrical services in the Townsville to Torres Strait, and Western regions.

Cairns branch was opened at 54 Supply Road, Bentley Park on the 1st December 2007 and has experienced strong growth, servicing the Cairns market.

Atherton branch opened on 1st December 2009 to service the Atherton Tablelands region.  This locally owned business has grown from just two staff to forty-five currently and the future looks very bright indeed.
